Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that Pluribus would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

As the debut season of the popular sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season officially in the works—the writers' room opened up about the fan response and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Fan Response

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and online debates regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is striving to ignore the noise.

“It feels like force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not impacted by audience chatter.”

“It's wiser to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Will the creator Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering the writers are not listening by audience theories, can we assume they have already decided how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… in a way.

“We have some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to abandon a good idea for a superior concept. This approach has served us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

Then again, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” he jokes.
