'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Loved Ones of Missing Teenagers Await Answers After Ski Resort Inferno
The relatives of teens lost after a devastating blaze at a establishment in a Swiss alpine town are enduring an excruciating period of uncertainty for official news and requesting information about their family members via social media.
The inferno ripped through the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of south-west Switzerland, in the middle of the night of New Year's Day. Circulated footage depict the ceiling igniting as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have stated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the fatalities of the fire, which claimed the lives of numerous partygoers and wounded another 119. Officials stated on Friday that 113 of the injured have been identified, with efforts ongoing to name the final individuals.
In the waiting period, relatives have been taking to online platforms to plead for any news about their loved ones who were at the bar that evening.
Desperate Searches for the Missing
The location of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, 16, are currently unknown, according to an appeal from his mother.
The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, informed a publication that she had returned to the city to see if he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the same in Bern, but could not find him.
"This is a living nightmare, a nightmare. Either I find my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. Words cannot describe it," she stated.
She added that some of his peers had been found with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they went through an absolute nightmare."
The Italian foreign ministry has confirmed that a number of of its young people remain missing.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage sportsman, originally from Genoa but now living in the UAE.
The Italian Golf Federation has stated that he is dead, without directly referencing the tragedy, paying tribute to a "talented young man who carried with him dedication and authentic values."
His parent, reportedly stated that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has clarified that a official announcement of his death is not yet.
Additional Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is also among the missing. His mother told reporters that he had been on vacation but had gone out with a group and ended up at the venue.
"Someone with him informed me they fled after the fire started and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he lost sight of him," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his educators commented, "I've always been struck by his good nature and positive demeanor, combined with great maturity. He would frequently ask if help out."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek nationality but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also at the bar on New Year's Eve, according to sources.
Her sibling has published an urgent request online, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
Consular authorities from her country of origin say they are closely watching the developments.
