The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
