The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Silent Hill and Social Deduction Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed several intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"This is a unique experience where a young woman harboring several human souls inside her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Within her exist four separate personas, each with their own anxieties and drives. These entities can seize control spontaneously, unleashing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the action unfolds within a creepy hospital, while other scenes show the main character navigating a desolate church.

An Environment of Personal Dread

"What are you afraid of? What makes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to others can trigger a deep instinct within us. This game delves into that idea — fears that are unique to every individual."

The central gameplay loop involves controlling the persona that emerges at a particular time. However, these souls will change involuntarily during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is populated by orderlies who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms where their heads should be. Flowers are an ever-present element, contrasting organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is real."

Once players have deduced a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. But, since each soul can deceive or hide the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] with your own hands," the narration states. "The final entity remaining might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
