The British designer Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

A year after graduating, he began designing men's fashion at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A frequent collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price designed the memorable jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in crafting body-hugging looks established him as a "genuine original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • A Client List from Rock to Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles laments the passing to a true visionary whose impact on style and culture remains profoundly felt.
