Adult Swim's Premier New Show of 2025 Secures a Substantial Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this charming family go about their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Now, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well catalyze that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
