A female charged with stalking Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a recorded message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, 24, who court testimony revealed has repeatedly asserted she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are facing charges indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, the court was told phone records and data obtained from phones logged Ms Wandelt repeatedly asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout that period.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most publicized child disappearance cases and remains open.

'I Am Not Seeking Money'

Another recorded message, played in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I know I'm overweight and plain like Madeleine used to be, but I feel what I know."

While a separate message of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone expressed: "What if there is a small chance that I am she? Then what? Isn't that significant for you?"

"I do not need money, I maintain a existence here in Poland, I just want to know," the message continued.

The panel was advised that through emails, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a effort to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with law enforcement who collated the information, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore contacted close associates of the McCanns, based on the phone records.

On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."

That day Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will persist and I will prove my point."

The court learned Mrs Spragg developed a association via internet with Ms Wandelt before assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' residence in the county in last December.

Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had reached out through communication app to Mrs McCann to say the news outlets had characterized Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she should be treated respectfully in the period preceding the visit to that location, the county, in last December.

The court learned message exchanges between the two defendants, in last November, considering attempting to acquire Mrs McCann's DNA samples from her bins or from utensils at a restaurant.

"We need to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.

On the occasion of the visit to their home, the defendant transmitted a text which said: "We are positioned adjacent to the McCanns' house with our headlights off similar to investigators. I desired to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."

The trial ongoing.
